Last time I wrote I mentioned that I was about to visit the Sculpture Park. I went there with my friend Kerstin, who has lived here a bit longer and knows all the neat places to visit. The sculpture park is located almost in the end of Huai Hai Rd where it ens to HongQiao Rd. The nearest metro station is HongQiao Road (it's across the street from the flower market).
I was under the impression that Sculpture Park was located outdoors (somehow I thought that the Park in the name meant it). Since nothing is (western way) logical here, the Sculpture Park consists of small outdoor park where there are several sculptures but also about many workshops, cafés, museums, exchibitions and book stores. It was raining a bit and we spent most of the time admiring sculptures indoors. The art was quite different from anything I've seen before. I'm no expert, but it was really interesting to see Chinese artists' work.
Here are some pictures from Sculpture Park (outdoor part of it):
View to the park
Some sculptures. I like the falling lady a lot.
Metal caravan
Clownes on their way
Nearby road was packed with small shops right next to another selling anything from frames to paintings or from antique to animals. The most exciting thing also located near the Sculpture Park was however the flower market. It was the first one I've found in Shanghai so far. There were all kinds of plants with very cheap prizes and so many flowers which I have never seen before.
Here are some pictures from the flower market:
This is called parrot plant in German. Anyone know its Finnish or English name?
Tons of lilies ready to be brought home...
One of the hallways with all the small shops
This one is also missing a name. Looks candy-like...
What did I end up buying from the flower market? I bought two plants (no idea of the name, some regular ones) for 7 RMB/each (about 0,7 euros) and a bouquet of Orchid flowers for 45 RMB (4,5 euros).
Now I have four plants to take care. Take a look at all my four babies. Aren't they cute?
thanks! I got my smallest "baby" a new tiny plate under the pot today. She's gonna feel so much better with that compared with the former folio-plate :D
I noticed this just now. Those "Papagei Pflanze" (or Papagei Helikonien) in German - which is exactly isn't, but it belongs to the same genus - is Heliconia and I believe that this pink ones cultivar name is 'Sexy Pink'. In Finnish it called simply "Helikonia" and in English "Pink Flamingo Heliconia" or simply Heliconia.
Your own plants in center are Ribbon Dracaena, Good Luck Plant, and lots of other names (ruokotraakki in Finnish). Unfortunately I don't see well enough the edges, but they looks like "Devil's Ivy" (kultaköynnös in Finnish)
